Gasworks Editions | Tai Shani: Runway

A transcription of Tai's video for those who prefer to read it: "I was really excited and happy when Gasworks asked me to make an edition for them. I was at the tail end of my DC Productions project and a lot of these installations are really big and they disappear at the end of the project, as I don't have storage to keep them. Even when they get placed in collections, often they get placed as a series of instructions as opposed to the actual material pieces. Much of this project was about creating an imaginary space around the idea of the city. I wanted to create these material traces of a much smaller scale that can continue living in the material world. I was thinking a lot about how these could be like contact relics or some kind of traces from this world that doesn't exist anymore. I was really happy to think about it that way and to bring some of the elements that have been constant throughout this project, like this geometric archaeological site seen from above like a runway or a motherboard. They look like many different things, I think. The hands, which have been a constant throughout this project, are a little symbol of work and the work that goes into them as well."
