Berette S Macaulay’s work interrogates the liminal points of va1 – “in-betweenness” – a personal existence of Black multiplicity, trans*nationality, and trans*cultural negotiations of identity. This shapeshifting embodiment is present in her family history, the post-colonial geographies she occupies, and in her chosen practices. Her Metamorphic Return to Fusion project utilizes a memory installation of disjointed family artefacts, photography, video, performance, poetry, and mask sculpture, to assert the right to alternative Beingness and il/legibility as an intentional tool of agency for Other-ed people.
